Protect yourself when banking online

Online banking is very convenient to manage and track finances; however a weak security system can allow cyber-thieves and hackers to steal your hard earned money.
Here are some tips to stay safe and alert
- Avoid browsing non business websites on the finance computer
- Ensure you log on to internet banking the correct way (via your banks website) and not via a link in an email
- Make sure the url in your web browser is correct (i.e https://www.anz.com)
- Do not leave your computers connected when not in use or while away from it
- Be wary of your surroundings and ensure no one is observing you (especially in public places)
- Educate the finance person about threats and dangerous activities
- Maintain the latest anti-virus and anti-malware software and firewalls
- Monitor for irregularities and missing funds
- Keep passwords, PINs and other security information secret
- Avoid SCAMS. The bank will NEVER ask you to provide your pin over the phone or via an email
- Keep your computer browser and Windows/Mac up to date
- Report anything suspicious immediately
