EvoHeat are Australia’s leading supplier of heat pump technology. Servicing residential and commercial customers, they felt it was time to consolidate IT systems into a more manageable platform, while bolstering their cyber security defence.
The Challenge
Recognised for extraordinary achievements in innovation and sustainability, EvoHeat have been providing energy efficient heating and cooling solutions for over 15 years. With many large-scale projects on the go, they wanted to improve productivity, reliability, and the consistency of their IT environment, while future proofing their business.
Steve Connolly, Operations Manager said, ‘We were looking to consolidate platforms from Google to Microsoft, while ensuring we were getting the best value from our hardware investments. We also had concerns around cyber security and felt there was no strategic approach to IT.’
The Solution
TechPath’s IT audit service, TechAlign, highlighted a need to move to a more streamlined and modern IT environment, and EvoHeat were able to get a better understanding of how migrating from Google to the Microsoft platform would improve productivity and benefit their business operations. It also identified weaknesses in cyber security, backups, and disaster recovery processes.
Following the TechAlign review, EvoHeat proceeded with TechPath’s recommendations which included PC upgrades, data and email migration, implementation of Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Intune, and Azure Active Directory, along with end user training. Security recommendations were also adopted during the transition.
‘We were able to modernise and secure the IT environment and move to a single cloud provider for emails and document storage,’ Steve said.
He added, ‘TechPath offered us the solution we were after and showed us they had the skillset to drive the project. We were extremely happy with how the project was managed and the support that we received throughout, and after completion.’
The Outcome
EvoHeat are now experiencing enhanced network performance and are much more confident about their cyber security. All company data has been moved to Microsoft cloud allowing easier sharing between locations. Defender for Office 365 has improved email protection with Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) and conditional access for all users. Platform-redundant 365 backups are now enabled across Exchange, SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive data with unlimited online retention and restoration points. Upgraded router, network switches, and wireless access points have improved performance and centralised cloud management.
Steve said, ‘It is a definite improvement on what we had, and the move has resolved several issues relating to conflicts between Google and Microsoft programs. Even being able to utilise more Microsoft applications like Teams and SharePoint may seem a simple thing to most, but we now have much greater ability when it comes to collaboration and productivity.’
When asked if there was any advice he would give to other businesses looking to undertake a similar project, ’Preparation is key. Ensure a decision is made on the structure you want in your folders prior to commencing. This will help with a smoother transition and quicker completion timeframe.’
