Office 365 is Now Called Microsoft 365

The official re-branding of Microsoft’s productivity suite may be a little confusing, but the actual subscription packages have remained the same.

Here is what you need to know:

What is Microsoft 365?

Microsoft 365 is a cloud-based subscription service that gives your team access to an integrated set of applications and services that enhance business operations. Get the best from AI and cutting-edge innovations with email, calendars, instant messaging, video conferencing, and dozens of other capabilities, along with all the popular applications in the Office Suite (Excel, Word and PowerPoint), all updated monthly with the latest features and security updates.

What is Office 365?

Office 365 is the traditional suite of Office applications like Word, Excel, and Outlook. These applications are now part of the Microsoft 365 subscription, are always up to date, and can be downloaded and installed directly onto your computer.

When did the transition happen?

The official re-branding took place on April 21st 2020.

Why did they change it?
The new naming convention represents Microsoft’s vision for the future of productivity tools and their ambition to continue to drive innovation that goes beyond what customers traditionally think of as Office.

What are the changes? Will it affect the current subscription we have?

In general, the subscription you had prior to April 21 will stay the same, only with a different name:

  • Office 365 Business Essentials is now Microsoft 365 Business Basic
  • Office 365 Business Premium is now Microsoft 365 Business Standard
  • Microsoft 365 Business is now Microsoft 365 Business Premium
  • Office 365 Business and Office 365 ProPlusis now Microsoft 365 Apps
  • Office 365 Enterprise (E) plans have remained the same

How much does it cost? Is it
more expensive or is it just the same?

Currently there is no change to pricing and the features have remained the same:

Microsoft 365 Business Basic (Email Only)
$6.90ex per user p/m

Microsoft 365 Business Standard (Office 365 Suite)
$17.20ex per user p/m

Microsoft 365 Business Premium (Office 365 Suite with extra security and compliance)
$27.50ex per user p/m
